During their careers as members of the Dresdner Kreuzchor, most of the Crucians live in the Alumnat, the choir’s residence, where they can feel at home. In their first two years in the choir, all the boys live here as "Alumnians". Beginning later with grade six the Crucians may live at home again as "Kurrendans" if the distance is acceptable. Crucians from outside Dresden and its immediate environs remain at the Alumnat until their Abitur.

Living Together

For altogether 90 Crucians the Alumnat is both a place of work and a place to live for nine years. In order to take care of the boys as befits their respective ages, the younger choirboys live on two separate floors. Six boys share one common room and one dormitory. The choir men live in double and treble bedrooms on their own floor, where they can arrange their rooms to suit their individual needs.

Growing Up Together

Each age group of boys has an experienced pedagogue assigned to look after them. In this way the boys receive care and support in their everyday school and choir life, in their free time, with their homework, and with their small and often big worries. Of course, the house masters cannot replace the boys' parents, but they are accessible confidants in any case.
