Dresden is a household name to music lovers all around the world. The reputation of this city of the arts rests not least on the performances of the Dresdner Kreuzchor, both in the city and on the choir’s tours within and outside Germany.
The Dresdner Kreuzchor is funded by the city of Dresden, capital of the Free State of Saxony. Thus, the citizens’ commitment to “their” Kreuzchor as a cultural and educational institution, which has stood for centuries, has been carried through to the present day. Despite the manifold financial restrictions weighing heavily on a municipality in economically uneasy times, people in positions of responsibility in the city of Dresden are agreed on preserving this institution, which is such a substantial contributor to the city’s cultural renown. Hence the choir is able today, because of an annual grant in aid, to use its funds entirely for the choral work and for the education and care of the Crucians.
