The Rudolf Mauersberger Scholarship, named after the Kreuzkantor (Head of Music) who held this position from 1930 to 1971, has been awarded annually to active or former Crucians of no more than 30 years of age since 1991. The scholarship's purpose is to promote the musical education and training of the scholarship holder.
The scholarship, which has a value of 5,000 €, was donated by Prof. Dr. Dieter Klaus, himself a Crucian from 1937 to 1946. A board of trustees including the donor, the Kreuzkantor, the present principal and the former principal of the Evangelisches Kreuzgymnasium (Protestant Evangelical School of the Holy Cross) and the present pastor of the Kreuzkirche (Church of the Holy Cross) decide together on the awarding of the scholarship.
Former Crucians who wish to apply for the scholarship may submit their applications to the secretary's office of the Dresdner Kreuzchor by 1st November of each year. Applicants are expected to provide a description of the project for which the scholarship is to be used.
The board's decision on the scholarship award is published no later than 1st February. The award ceremony usually forms part of a Kreuzchor Vesper in May, where the scholarship holder presents a selection of his musical abilities.
